Fighting with a shotgun

Figured I’d pass this link along, since pretty much everyone I know has at least a Shotgun for fighting zombies.

Just make sure to aim for the head (which is not mentioned in the article, but should be a ‘duh’ for zombie fighting)

Training…

Posted in Preparation, Training at 8:16 AM on December 3rd, 2008 by Dicion

Fear not children, I have not dissapeared. I have simply been using the past month to research possible Z-day scenarios, via Fallout3 and Left4Dead!

Granted, Fallout3 is more about post-apocyliptic nuclear war, but do you really think that the zombies will rise without any response from the government? It will be fast, yes, but I still think they’ll manager to get a few nukes out the hatch in an attempt to ‘control the situation’. Notice I said attempt.

They’ll make a radio/tv address, saying that ‘the city of (insert first major city to be hit by zombies) is too fargone to save, so in the interest of protecting the rest of the country, we will be nuking it now.’

It will be too late, however.

Soon they will be nuking cities left and right, not to ‘protect the rest of the country’ anymore, but rather in a desperate attempt to prevent themselves from getting hit.

Also too late.

They’ll call out the military, national guard, et all. Soon they’ll be strafing small town suburbia with cluster bombs… all in an attempt to control the uncontrollable.

… Sounds like nuclear war enough for me… and we won’t ever even have to leave our own shoreline.

So yes, in that regard, Fallout3 could be considered relevant to surviving in post-apocyliptia.

Left4Dead is just damn fun :)

Tip Of The Day

Posted in Training at 3:44 PM on September 5th, 2008 by Dicion

I figured I would try to start a quick Tip of the day, so I can throw in small random tips inbetween the larger posts. I’m going to TRY to post one every day, but most likely that won’t happen, so it’ll actually be more like a few times a week.

Anyways, Today’s tip:

When battling zombies, of course, the plan is to keep them as far from you as possible at all times. If you let them get close and grab you, you have a high chance of not surviving the encounter. However, with some simple training, you can increase your chances exponentially in close combat. To that end, here’s a quick tip on how to escape if a zombie grabs you around the torso, in an attempt to bite you. Just imagine that the guy in the grey shirt is actually a half-decomposed, rotting zombie who is wrapping it’s arms around you in an attempt to bite you in the jugular.

There’s also a lot more escapes detailled in related videos. Take some time to review them. It could mean the difference between tossing off a zombie once it grabs you, or getting bitten.

Training Simulator

Posted in Preparation, Training at 11:10 AM on September 1st, 2008 by Dicion

So I’ve been reading the reviews of Left 4 Dead, which is a new ‘Game’ being released by Valve sometime soon. I say ‘Game’ because I’m pretty sure they’re only calling it that so as to not alarm the public en-masse. It actually looks like it’s more of a ‘Simulator’ then a ‘Game’.

The graphics look dang good, and apparently the zombies use perfect zombie ‘artificial intelligence’. Now, I’d imagine that zombie AI is probably the easiest AI to program, ever… since there is no ‘Intelligence’ to it. I can detail it as follows:

-Stumble Around randomly… if you see other zombies, go the same direction they are.
-If you see someone thats not a zombie, moan loudly, and stumble towards them.
-If you hear another zombie moan, stumble that direction.
-If you get within arms reach of someone thats not a zombie, try to grab and bite them.

And that, folks, is IT.

Anyways, this ‘Game’ looks quite realistic, so much so, that some people are complaining about it’s realism. (Edit: Originally that linked to a specific thread about someone complaining that the zombies will not drop weapons and ammo, the thread has since been removed) Of course, they are promptly put in their place by people who actually know what they’re talking about.

I admit, they seem a little faster then they should be, put perhaps these are the Nanobot Infected Zombies that were discussed in this previous post, and not the solanum virus infected ones.
