FN Five-seveN

So there’s been a lot of hype going around lately about the relatively new FN Five-SeveN handgun.

It’s got a few things going for it. For instance, it holds 20+1 rounds, certainly, more ammunition is a good thing on Z-Day. Also, there are different kinds of rounds available for it. The general civilian round that most people can purchase is *not* defined as ‘armor-piercing’, however, due to it’s small size and velocity, it has the rumored ability to be able to penetrate certain materials better than a larger round. The second type of ammunition, generally available only to Military and Law Enforcement, IS an armor-piercing round, that, according to what I’ve read, is quite effective.

Combine the above with a reputable name like FN, add the ‘cool’ features like a ‘tac rail’, and you have something that’s sure to attract some folks.

I got a chance to play with one of these at a recent gun show here (amazing, since they’ve been out of stock everywhere for a bit, they’re now appearing to become available once more).

I’m going to go against the ‘hype’ out there so far, and say that, personally, I think it felt like a cheap plastic POS. I’ve held Glocks that felt more sturdy. Hell, I’ve held toy guns that felt more sturdy. I haven’t gotten a chance to shoot one, yet, so I’m going to hold my final judgement until I get to do that, but right off the bat… It left a bad taste in my mouth.

Specific example: The safety you see there in the middle, FLEXES if you push on it even slightly once it’s seated in one of it’s two positions. It felt like I could easily break it off, or that it would at least deform heavily if I actually pushed on it.

Anyways, anyone out there have specific experience with the New Five-seveN, or can explain to me why it feels like it belongs in the GI-Joe Aisle at the local Toys-R-Us, please comment and let me know

In case of zombies…

… Open case:

My 'In Case Of Zombies' Box

My 'In Case Of Zombies' Box

I’ve made fun of those ‘In case of zombies’ Glass boxes before, with only like 4 rounds. I wanted to show you what MY case looks like.

Thats a Remington 1100 12Ga Autoloader, with a Pistol grip stock, and an 18″ Barrel. Also has a 3 round magazine extension, which gives me 7+1 in the shotgun itself.

I also have a 3-color tactical light on it as well. Does Really bright white, Red, and Blue.

In addition to that, it has a 6 shell side-saddle carrier, a 15 shell sling, and thats a 55 shell bandoleer with it as well.

If you don’t feel like doing the math yourself, that’s 84 shells of zombie killing goodness.

Note: The bandoleer is Dirt cheap from opticsplanet.com. It’s made by blackhawk, and only like $20. there’s no reason NOT to get it!
